"Since this storm will have a great deal of moisture available to it from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, a substantial amount of precipitation is likely", said AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.

The metro has been upgraded from a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning from midnight Tuesday through 6 p.m. Wednesday. "Please allow extra time for travel", the transit agency said in a tweet.

Meanwhile sub-freezing air may well get "trapped" in the mountain valleys, so ice and snow may well accumulate long enough to sponsor slick roads and possible power outs.
