President Trump announced a second summit this month with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un the same day that news leaked of a confidential United Nations report detailing the regime hiding nukes and selling weapons.
Trump met Kim in June in Singapore, the first-ever summit between leaders of the two countries that have never formally ended the 1950-53 Korean War, months after the U.S. leader was threatening to obliterate North Korea over its nuclear and missile tests.
The second meeting between the two leaders was announced by the White House on January 18 following discussions with Kim Yong Chol, North Korea's lead negotiator on nuclear talks.
Kim Yong-hyun, a professor of North Korean studies at Dongguk University in Seoul called the president's rhetoric about preventing a war "somewhat exaggerated", but acknowledged Trump's role in the detente with North Korea.
Last year, North Korea released American detainees, suspended nuclear and long-range missile tests and dismantled a nuclear test site and parts of a rocket launch facility without the presence of outside experts.
Experts say that North Korea will likely seek to offer the demolition of its Yongbyon Nuclear Scientific Research Center - North Korea's major nuclear site that houses a uranium enrichment facility and reactors - in exchange for a U.S. promise to formally declare an end to the 1950-53 Korean War and to open a liaison office in Pyongyang.
Da Nang's Furama Resort, which also hosted the 2017 Apec meetings, has been floated as a location for the next Trump-Kim summit.More news: Facebook Messenger app: You can now delete messages sent with Messenger

"North Korea relationship is best it has ever been with USA", he tweeted.
Vietnam could also be an important location for the U.S., which is now locked in a trade war with China - one of North Korea's closest allies.
In fact, we know that they continue to do activities on the ground to advance their program and sanctions have weakened as other nations have loosened their restrictions because on things are looking better. The US is also an important trade partner for Vietnam, especially now that Washington and Beijing are stuck in an ongoing trade dispute. "These days, it has turned into a decadent capitalist getaway for young people".
The Trump-Kim meet could pay off in more ways than one. "Vietnam hosts students from North Korea who research Vietnam's economic model and in 2010, Vietnam hosted confidential talks between North Korea and Japan on family reunions", Vietnam expert Thayer said. "You too can remain a single-party communist dictatorship but also grow your economy".
The U.S. Embassy in Vietnam said it did not have anything to announce regarding the summit.
Hang said Vietnam was willing to make positive contributions in collaboration with other stakeholders for a successful US-Korea summit.
