Kevin Spacey to appear in court on sexual assault charge

The Boston Globe reported a not-guilty plea was entered on the two-time Oscar winner's behalf during the hearing in the USA state of MA.

Spacey was sacked from his hit Netflix drama House of Cards and director Ridley Scott edited him out of his Getty family drama All the Money in the World and replaced the Oscar victor with Christopher Plummer. But Judge Thomas Barrett denied Spacey's request.

A reporter speaks outside of Nantucket District Court Monday morning prior to Kevin Spacey arriving.

Spacey had asked the court to excuse him from appearing at Monday's arraignment, saying his presence would "amplify negative publicity" around the case.

Another hearing is set for March 4. Spacey does not have to appear, the judge ruled, but he needs to be available by phone.

Spacey and his lawyers declined to comment as they left the courthouse amid a crush of reporters.

The two-time Oscar victor is expected to plead not guilty during the court hearing on the MA resort island community of Nantucket.

The alleged victim is the son of former television news presenter Heather Unruh, who spoke publicly about the incident a year ago.

"I can promise you this", Spacey said, "If I didn't pay the price for the things we both know I did do, I'm certainly not going to pay the price for the things I didn't do".

"The first time she ever heard of the allegations of sexual assault was when she saw the now-infamous press conference that the [alleged victim's] mother, Heather Unruh undertook with her civil lawyer a year later, " attorneys Alan J. Jackson and Juliane Balliro wrote.

Spacey is accused of groping the 18-year-old man at the Club Car bar in July 2016. According to the complaint, the busboy told police Spacey bought him a number of alcoholic drinks, bragged to him about the size of his penis, and tried to get him to go back to the actor's house afterward.

He said the two were standing in a crowd by a piano when Spacey unzipped the teen's trousers and groped his genitals for about three minutes. He said the woman told him to leave, so he did. He said he made a decision to come forward because he didn't want something similar to happen to anyone else.

Spacey has also faced other allegations. The victim claims that Spacey fondled his penis. His lawyer claimed there are texts between the alleged victim and his girlfriend at the time of the incident, and his lawyer requested the judge preserve texts and cellphone records for the case.
