Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won one of the first awards of the night for Best Animated Feature Film.

The Globes always split the best-picture nominees into two categories: drama and musical/comedy. I think that's why it took 14 years to get made.

While Bohemian Rhapsody's win at the Golden Globes does give the troubled film momentum heading into the Oscars, it's not a particularly strong indicator of its chances, especially if the backlash continues to pick up steam.

Golden Globes 2019 hosts Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg used their opening monologue to poke fun at Lady Gaga's much-repeated "100 people in a room" anecdote.

"Crazy Rich Asians is the first studio film with an Asian American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha", Oh joked. The spy series has been a critical darling since its inception, but awards consideration has been sparse, so it was heartening to see it go out on top.

But Rhys lost the award for best actor in a TV series to Richard Madden, who won for his role as a British security officer in the BBC/Netflix political thriller "Bodyguard".

There are a ton of award shows in the next few weeks leading up to the Oscars.
