"Roma" also faces an uphill climb because no foreign-language film has ever won the best picture prize. The film is nominated for best picture - a first for a superhero film. And they left two open spots on the Best Picture possible-field-of-ten which DEFINITELY should have been filled this year. Cuaron was nominated for direction and cinematography, while Yalitza Aparicio was recognized for her lead performance and Marina de Tavira, who plays the family matriarch, got a supporting-actress nomination.
Hollywood woke to the news of the highly-anticipated Oscar nominations. De Tavira was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the acclaimed black and white film.

I expected it to compete in the craft categories despite losing momentum as an overall leading contender, though I am surprised it didn't get a score nomination.
