Journey is headed to PC through Epic Games' new storefront

Epic Games' newly-announced storefront will be open about sales data up to a point. The biggest hook for players now is that Epic will be giving away a free game every two weeks.

And if you're not quite ready to drop money on a new gaming platform, Epic Games has you covered.

The promotion starts on December 14, 2018 with Subnautica and is followed on December 28, 2018 by Super Meat Boy.

Journey, a game where you're a small figure trekking through a desert with calm, serene music playing in the back, was released in 2012 and was a PS3 exclusive until now.

Store pages for individual games like Hades have some information and trailers but no user reviews or links to forums, newsfeeds, and lots of other features which can occasionally be useful but also overwhelming and unnecessary. With more than 100 million Fortnite players around the world, Epic could push them all through its new portal, suddenly offering a game playing audience that is nearly as large as Steam's entire user base. When it snubbed Google Play Store on Android, Epic Games made its position clear.

Up until now, regularly scheduled giveaways have normally required a subscription fee, such as we see with Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus; the games are a fringe benefit of the service that lets Xbox and PlayStation users participate in multiplayer games, and they can receive special discounts on other titles.

KitGuru Says: The Epic Store is shaping up to be more than just a competitor to Steam, potentially offering features absent from its rival. "More importantly, we think what we can build while taking your feedback into account will be much better than if we were to work in relative secrecy until it was done".

Epic Games has enough pull thanks to Fortnite being the game right now.
