While they are not exactly a Zamboni, which might be better, Washington State employed a tractor and a pickup-snow plow to remove the snow from the field at halftime with Washington leading 14-7 on Friday at Martin Stadium. The Husky win also dashed a trio of hopes for the Cougs (10-2 overall): the program's first Pac-12 North title, a potential trip to the Rose Bowl, and a long shot to crash the four-team College Football Playoff.

The Cougars finished the season with a 10-2, 7-2 record.

The Cougars' pulled within 20-15 on Williams' 1-yard TD run late in the third quarter but that was as close as Washington State would get. "The biggest thing is that they came out on top, that's the part really troubling me", Washington State coach Mike Leach said. The victor of this game will clinch the PAC-12 North in what promises to be one of the most exciting college football games of the season.

"I thought it was a unique way to see a football game". That seemed out of the question a few weeks ago when the Huskies' lost two games in the span of three weeks.

Friday night's result puts a damper on what had become a magical season for Washington State. The section of Martin Stadium where the Washington band would have sat was roped off and left empty.

After one of the Husky band buses flipped on Interstate 90 Thursday on the way to the cross-state rivalry game in Pullman, the Cougar Marching Band made a decision to forgo the competitiveness of the biggest game of the year in Washington collegiate athletics for a spirit of support instead.

At least 20 out of the 56 people on the bus were taken to a local hospital after they suffered injuries that were not serious, Bryant said.

It wasn't immediately clear why the bus rolled over, though Bryant warned incoming media members to drive carefully because the road was icy.
