The 2014 NBA Draft produced an intriguing crop of talent, with most of the players just starting to come into their own now. In the end, the Kansas Jayhawks showed why they're the No. 1 team in the country by holding off a second-half surge from the Spartans for a 92-87 win. Dotson ended the game with 16 points and three assists, shooting 6-of-11. Reddish finished with the quietest 22 points in the history of college basketball, a night that would have been considered an explosion for the third-best player on this Duke team. The Wildcats are a perpetually young team but actually the more experienced team as they likely will start two freshmen to Duke's four.

Head coach Mike Krzyzewski of the Duke Blue Devils celebrates with fans after defeating the North Carolina Tar Heels 79-73 at Cameron Indoor Stadium on February 9, 2011 in Durham, North Carolina.

"I was hopeful. But you don't know until you actually see it".

Krzyzewski said he was pleased with his collection of freshmen, a group that includes three players with the potential to claim the top three spots in next summer's National Basketball Association draft. "He said, 'Well, do they get out of it?' And I said, 'Every one of 'em.' So I was glad he got out of it tonight". It's always important to avoid overreaction and one game is no answer to how a player will perform all season, but this gave us insight on how the freshmen perform against their first game with legit competition.

Can you see it coming now? Self cited Azubuike's improved, softer stroke from the line in the coach's belief the center will "get better at that" and said KU won't substitute him out "very often in that situation". "It's just one game and I understand that We've got a shot at seeing a basketball team that can go undefeated".

Kansas controlled the paint for most of the game and used a 43% three-point shooting effort to build their lead and hold Michigan State off.

Kansas will host Vermont in a campus round game of the NIT on Monday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. on ESPN2 and on the Jayhawk Radio Network. This season represents the second-highest 3PA per game of his career but his poor percentages have obviously killed any excitement about his willingness to shoot the 3-point shot.

"Really proud of my guys", Krzyzewski said.

Halftime - Kansas 50-36.

Lawson made a case, too, finishing with 14 rebounds and six assists after sitting out last season following his transfer from Memphis.

Barrett was 13 of 26 from the field with six assists and four rebounds, and Williamson went 11 of 13 from the field with seven rebounds.

But Cassius Winston missed a layup for Michigan State, Kansas grabbed the rebound and Grimes sealed it by making 1 of 2 free throws.
