Facebook, Instagram down, company confirms


Last week, Facebook was down for just a few minutes, but this time it was longer and it also affected Instagram and WhatsApp in several pockets of the world including US, South America and Europe.

Users in the USA and Europe began reporting that Facebook has been inaccessible since at least 8:15 a.m. ET.

To view your Facebook usage, open the mobile app and select the More tab (three-lined icon) Settings & Privacy Your Time on Facebook.

Most users are reporting a "total blackout" with a third having trouble logging in and one in five reporting problems with the Facebook app.

Facebook users report they are receiving a messages that says, "Something went wrong and we couldn't load your videos", or, "Service unavailable".

They were focused in Europe and the east coast of the U.S., though that may be largely a result of timezones.

Facebook users around the world had trouble accessing the social media site Tuesday morning, prompting people to flock to Twitter to commiserate.

Facebook's outage appears to be global.

Facebook and Instagram are still down for some users, hours after the company confirmed the outage.

The website Down Detector showed significant issues for both sites. Facebook has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix.
