Red Dead Redemption 2 made $725 million over the weekend

Unit sales were not made available for Red Dead Dead Redemption 2 and, with console-bundled sales in the mix, the tally is an elusive one to determine mathematically.

While it has fallen to fourth place today, as of press time, it bagged some great figures while on top.

While it has yet to beat the yearly colossal success of EA's Federation Internationale de Football Association series, Red Dead Redemption 2 has already become the second-biggest launch of 2018. The eagerly anticipated sequel to one of the last generation's best games was always going to make a heck of a lot of money - but nobody expected it to have the best opening weekend of any product in the history of media entertainment.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the landmark 2010 game Red Dead Redemption and the third installment in the Red Dead franchise, which launched in 2004 with Red Dead Revolver.

"Red Dead Redemption 2" broke records in its first three days on sale, pulling in more than $725 million in worldwide retail sales and achieving the biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment, developer Rockstar Games announced.

It has been eight years since the makers of Grand Theft Auto released the first Western action-adventure game.

And upon release day, it broke another record, securing biggest day one game sales ever on PlayStation Network, and continued to break the record for biggest first three day sales too. Rockstar plans to launch Red Dead Online in November as a public beta.
