Mega Millions jackpot soars to $900 million, second-highest

The Mega Millions drawing is not only the largest in the game's history, it's also the third largest in the United States lottery jackpot history.

The numbers were 3, 45, 49, 61 and 69 with the Mega Ball of 9.

The $667 million jackpot is the third-largest grand prize in USA history.

A second-tier prize winning Mega Millions ticket sold for the Tuesday drawing that matched five of the five white balls drawn won the $1,000,000 prize.

The last time Mega Millions had a jackpot victor was July 24th.

If you played the mega millions Tuesday night, don't throw out your ticket yet. The chance of matching all six numbers is one in 302.5 million. The amount you will win is likely $0, because the odds of winning either jackpot are one in several hundred million. The Maryland trio went for the cash option of $158 million.

There may not have been a big victor Tuesday night, but there were more than four million winning tickets at different prize levels. That distinction goes to the $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot in 2016 that was shared by three winners.

More than $1 billion in combined potential prize money is up for grabs between the Mega Millions and Powerball lotteries.

THe jackpot, according to the AP, is expected to climb to $868 million. MA residents have the biggest taste for playing the odds, spending nearly $763 per year on lottery tickets, the study found.
