This exploit works by sending a message that contains a special character in it, the message will simply arrive at your PlayStation 4 as "Juegas ⍰ ♡", it doesn't even take opening the app for the issue to occur as you'll find your system locking up before hard crashing.

In order to protect your hardware from this kind of attack, users are encouraged to change their message settings to receive messages from "friends only" or "no one" under Personal Info/Messages, according to Polygon. "Messages" and then Messages.
Of course, if you select "Friends Only" you are still open to attack from anyone in your friends list, but hopefully that doesn't include any idiots.
