Breast Cancer Awareness Month: 'Know your body'


October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness and funding for the disease. That's when Melissa and her sister chose to get tested.

An on-campus Breast Cancer awareness walk held here on Wednesday at the Government College University (GCU), Lahore in collaboration with the Pink Ribbon Pakistan to eliminate social stigmas attached to breast cancer which if detected early can be cured.

The burden of breast cancer may be far more severe than estimated by the government, revealed a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report released on Thursday. "The government estimates are only based on the ICMR cancer registries and some other hospital based registries but the number of breast cancer cases would be much higher than we really know", said Mehrotra.

Tennessee women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer or pre-cancerous conditions for these cancers are enrolled for treatment coverage through the state's TennCare program.

Homemade baked goods including creme sandwich cookie balls, blackberry cobbler and cherry pies were donated by parents and community members.

"I had a strong group of people who were with me, and that's what made the difference", she said.

"It just feels like we're all coming together for a common cause you know", said Lopeztome, "in fighting so that no one has to hear those words again". Deaths from breast cancer in the Ontario population went down by about 47 percent in women ages 50 to 74 from 1990 to 2013.

Davidson was nominated and named to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women.

"Spreading awareness about breast cancer is our responsibility as a company that puts its people's well-being at the heart of everything we do".

Breast Cancer Awareness Month means different things to different people.

According to the American Cancer Society, the money raised goes towards research, patient services and providing education around screenings and reducing cancer risks. She instantly felt a false sense of relief, but she actually did have cancer.
