Trump gives news conference in New York City

Speaking to reporters as he was entering the United Nations on Wednesday, President Donald Trump said the United States and North Korea have "a wonderful relationship going" and that he would be announcing the timing and location of his next meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the "very near future". "America is governed by Americans".

The leaders' spontaneous response to Trump's address only reinforced the American president's isolation among allies and foes alike, as his nationalistic policies have created rifts with erstwhile partners and cast doubt in some circles about the reliability of American commitments around the world.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says US President Donald Trump's decision to exit the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), has isolated Washington as the majority of countries back the historic agreement.

"We supported him pulling out of the Iran deal", Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir told the 2018 Iran Summit. "Didn't expect that reaction, but that's OK".

Leftist Bolivian President Evo Morales bluntly declared that "the United States does not care about human rights or justice".

Mr Trump on Tuesday began his address by noting that this is the second time he has spoken to the UN General Assembly, and then began to tout the progress his administration has made since he took office.

"Permanent members of the UN Security Council must not attack and undermine the worldwide nonproliferation regimes and the institutions that underpin them", Macron said.

"I said, 'It's true.' I heard smiles", Trump said.

"This is one of the most counterproductive measures imaginable for regional global peace and security", Pompeo said at conference, as carried by Reuters.

In his address a year ago to the UN, Trump insulted Kim as a "rocket man" bent on nuclear destruction.

"Perhaps because we're able to keep this multilateral framework (nuclear deal), avoid the worst and act as a mediator, while the USA sanctions create pressure and reduce the amount of money available for Iran's expansionism, that can accelerate the process we want", French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters.

"Well that's fake news", Trump replied. He called on OPEC to stop raising oil prices and criticised China's trade practices.

Mr Rouhani added that the reintroduction of USA sanctions, which are due to come back into effect in November, were nothing new and an attempt to exert psychological pressure on Iran. Market forces and demand for oil on the worldwide market are likely to mean Iran will continue to find customers to buy its supply.
