Jets Claim They Knew Matthew Stafford's Signals

Jets knew Lions signals: The New York Jets defense apparently knew all of Matt Stafford's hand signals during their 48-17 blowout win over the Lions.

"We were calling out their plays as (Stafford was) getting up to the line", Lee said, via the New York Post.

The running back then scored a touchdown a few minutes into the game.

I'm going to go with NO here and I'm not going to overthink it.

Stafford completed 27 of 46 passes for 286 yards, with one touchdown and the Jets cashed in those four Stafford turnovers for 13 points.

Jermaine Kearse is doubtful for the Jets on Monday so they'll rely upon last year's breakout wide receiver Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa as the two primary targets.

"I know it sounds insane, but we're a lot better football team than we showed", tackle Taylor Decker said.

"He didn't flinch", Jets coach Todd Bowles said. Darnold became the youngest opening day quarterback in National Football League history, and his introduction to the National Football League was rough. It'll mark the regular season debut of highly touted rookie quarterback Sam Darnold, who'll start under-center for NY.

In 2017 we saw 227 targets from Matt Stafford go to just Golden Tate and Marvin Jones Jr. and we should expect more of the same this year. Roberts, whom Maccagnan signed to a one-year, $1 million free agent contract in March and earlier broke returns for 43 and 16 yards, then tiptoed down the left sideline 78 yards for the Jets' third touchdown in 2:36.

The Jets rubbed salt in the wounds after the game by mocking the Lions, saying they easily figured out Detroit's signals and knew what plays were coming for much of the evening. The Lions defense surrendered a number of big plays throughout the game, including touchdown passes of 41 and 21 yards. I just didn't make enough good decisions, enough good throws.

While the numbers for the late game between the Raiders and the Rams seemed to have held steady with previous year, that too could be a misleading fact. Sam Darnold's first pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Instead, he waited two years before he got his shot in the starting role, but he made the best of it.

TAKE THE QUIZ: Which Jets Player Are You Most Like? If the Lions can't find a way to correct things and their plays continue to be predictable, Monday will only be the beginning of things to come. "Definitely something of a bright point for the team, for sure", Lee said, "but as a defense, it doesn't change what we have to do".

Darnold made the ill-advised decision to roll to his right and throw across the field on his first snap. Veteran Andre Roberts took it back 43 yards into Lions territory.

Lions: Visit the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. But you can see it, and they can see it, lasting much longer than that.
