Apple announces new iPhones in Cupertino at the Steve Jobs Theater

One major change is that Apple has done away with the home button on the iPhone XS and XS Max, meaning the phones can be unlocked only with Face ID unlock.

As much as Apple loves throwing phrases such as "revolutionary", "a new level", and "best ever", the new iPhones aren't sporting that much innovation from its previous generation.

The iPhone Xs Max starts at $1,099 for a 64GB model and jumps to $1,249 for the 256GB model.

A new Apple Watch and software with advanced heart-monitoring capabilities could boost the detection of abnormal heartbeats in millions of people, but it could also raise the chance of false positives, a cardiologist and researcher says. Naturally, the jokes about buying an iPhone with a kidney were back and so were the jokes about its chargers. And some will carry other new features such as two SIMs-microchips that allow smartphone users to connect to a wireless network-making it easier for travelers to use their phones overseas, these people said. With Bollywood memes and dash of desi humour, these relatable jokes have left everyone ROFL-ing. The iPhone Xs gets a 5.8-inch OLED panel, while the iPhone Xs Max comes with a larger 6.5-inch OLED display.

The XR will come in fancy colours like blue, yellow, project red, white, black and coral. The XR is available for pre-order this month and will ship in October. A meditation app will also work directly on the watch face, moving through breathing exercises without the need to open an app.

Switching our attention to the iPhone XR, Apple's budget offering gets a liquid retina LCD display and a single camera at the rear. This one will cost nearly $1,100, topping last year's iPhone X, which at $1,000 seemed jaw-dropping at the time.

Design-wise, the iPhone Xr bears similarities to the iPhone Xs and Xs Max with a 6.1-inch all-screen build, slim bezels and the signature notch which incorporates Face ID and gestural navigation, but for a considerably lower price starting at $749 United States dollars, and available in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB models. Both phones will be available in Space Gray, Silver, and Gold finishes and will come in 64GB, 128GB, 512GB storage options.

Using the direct price conversion, the iPhone XR pricing is quite similar to the iPhone 8 at the time of launch.

Late previous year Apple was hit with a massive iPhone slowdown scandal that seemed to confirm the conspiracy theory that Apple intentionally slows down older iPhone to force users to upgrade. Portrait Lighting is also supported but it's limited to just 3 effects - Natural, Studio and Contour.
