Verizon, Motorola Debut Smartphone with 5G-capable Add-on Mod

More important to note is that the Z3 and every other Mod compatible Motorola will also work with the company's new 5G Moto Mod.

But while 5G might seem like a really good reason to run out and buy a Z3, don't be fooled. AT&T has hinted that its first 5G device will be a "puck" rather than a phone, so Verizon's announcement with Motorola for the z3 may allow Verizon to maintain some parity with AT&T on the mobile 5G topic. This means, unlike the last year Moto Z family that included the Moto Z2 Force and Moto Z2 Play, there will be the Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play this year.

In the United States, the Moto Z3 comes only in Ceramic Black color and will be costing around $480 (approx Rs 33,000). We should also mention that the smartphone is exclusively being sold on Verizon.

The Moto Z3 will be available exclusively through Verizon Wireless in the US and will begin shipping on August 16.

As for the 5G Moto Mod, Motorola says it'll be available early next year. The Moto Z3 sports a 6.1-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display, carrying a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels.

At the helm sits Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC, aided by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It features dual rear cameras, a combination of 12MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 12MP monochrome lens. On the front side, the Moto Z3 comes with an 8-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.0.

The connectivity option includes, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS/ A-GPS, and USB Type-C. Motorola has partnered with Qualcomm to launch a 5G Moto Mod that will enable the next-gen network access on the device. A 3000mAh battery completes the package.

Adding a zest of uniqueness to Motorola devices are the Moto Mods, and the Moto Z3 gets a host of those, too. On the surface the Moto Z3 is a mid-tier phone, but Motorola - with help from Verizon - hopes to turn it into something special thanks to the new 5G moto mod that will be available in early 2019.

Another perk of attaching the 5G Moto Mod to the Moto Z3 is that it will give you an additional 2,000mAh of capacity.

All Moto Z phones have the same overall design, which is how they work with Moto Mods.

Moto Z3 was launched on Thursday at an event in Chicago, the company's headquarters. It's not coincidental that the 5G Moto Mod won't be available until then at an undisclosed price. In 2019, a "mobile 5G solution" will be released so more people can access the upgraded network.
