Independence Day 2018: Google honours India with a special doodle

The day dawned with 31 gun salutes in the federal capital and 21 gun salutes in the provincial headquarters.

This 15th August, India is celebrating its 72nd Independence Day.

Pakistan's Independence Day is celebrated with special prayers in mosques - centred around peace and security of the country.

Pakistan Rangers officials at the Wagah border crossing exchanged candies with Indian Border Security Force personnel. The ceremony was also attended by caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk, the three chiefs of the armed forces and other notable personalities and foreign dignitaries.

Soldiers from the Pakistan Navy played the national anthem at the mausoleum of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. "People across the country flocked to stalls that lined up streets to purchase national flags in different sizes, t-shirts, badges and other merchandise to display their national pride", the report said. He emphatically stated that this year the general elections coincided with the Independence Day.

He stressed the need for focusing on obstacles which cause problems for the country and added unity is needed to get rid of political and social issues.

The ceremonies for transfer of power took place on August 14, 1947, for Pakistan and August 15, 1947, for India.

He said Pakistan is the hope and a blessing of Allah Almighty for the creation of which our forefathers gave unprecedented sacrifices. A united resolve would pave the way for Pakistan to become a "great nation", he said.

While Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day yesterday, it was India's turn to do the same today. He called upon the worldwide community to raise its voice to get the Kashmiri people their due rights.

At the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh hundreds of Pakistani expatriates watched as Pakistan's Ambassador, Khan Hasham Bin Saddique, hoisted the national flag.
