British woman survives 10 hours in sea after falling off cruise ship

Officials on a Croatian rescue ship found the former Virgin Atlantic crewmember Sunday morning, swimming close to where she fell. "And she said she was singing to not feel cold in the sea overnight".

Dolores Brenko Skerjanc of the Croatian port authority told state broadcaster HRT that the Adriatic Sea is warm in the summer and that it contributed to the survival.

A Norwegian spokesperson said: "A report was made that a guest aboard Norwegian Star had gone overboard while the ship was returning to Venice".

Usually, when we report on cruise ship overboards they don't end well but we are glad to post that in this case the guest was rescued.

NCL said: "The Coast Guard was notified and a search and rescue operation ensued".

She was taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Pula for a health check.

He added: 'We were extremely happy for saving a human life'. The military used a PC-9 aircraft and a patrol boat that was less than a mile from the ship when the woman was reported missing.

The spokeswoman said: "We are very happy that the individual, who is a United Kingdom resident, is now safe and will soon be reunited with friends and family".

Norwegian Cruise Line has had another man overboard incident recently.
