The death of the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin, still has many of us reeling.

Speaking to the USA chat show host afterwards, Ariana recalled meeting Aretha at the White House.

Despite her feelings, the pair didn't even become friends until much later.

The 25-year-old USA star brought the house down last night with a hastily-arranged and emotional rendition of Aretha's 1967 hit (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

He'd made such an impression on her, in fact, that she even joked to her tour manager, Roshad Ismail, that she was going to marry him.

She told Jimmy: "I left his writers room and, I'm not a "crushy" person, but I left and said to my tour manager I'm going to marry him'". I don't have like, crushes on people I don't know.

The couple got engaged earlier this year after just a few weeks of dating.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson's whirlwind engagement just keeps getting sweeter ― and "Sweetener". She said when she answered the phone, all she heard was, "This is Aretha". 'She was calling my bluff.

"The day I met her, I was like, 'Hey, I'll marry you tomorrow, '" he explained.

The pop star also told the story of the track named after Davidson, sharing that it was obviously about him, and that she didn't really know what to call it.
