Woman Killed, Another Loses Legs in Tour Boat Explosion

Passengers on the neighboring boat can be seen shouting desperately to move their boat farther away in case there's another explosion. Jackson was celebrating her 15th wedding anniversary. Her husband Tyrane Jackson is recovering in a Florida hospital, her father Malvin Grimes told the station. The remaining passengers are also being treated for unknown injuries.

Only the American woman died. Castleton University posted to Facebook that it was "shocked and saddened to hear that Stephanie Schaffer and her family were involved in such a traffic accident". "And I would say probably three minutes into the ride is when the right side of the boat exploded". "Words can not describe this tragedy and I am so sorry to the Schaffer family that they have to go through this". The explosion caused the entire ship to catch fire, according to a police statement.

Another American, 22-year-old Stefanie Schaffer, lost her legs after sustaining life-threatening injuries in the explosion, news reports said.

Relatives and friends were trying to help the family through an online fundraising campaign that had raised $105,000 by Tuesday. "The Family wants everyone to know they are so thankful for the outpouring of love and support by so many of you. The kind words and prayers are very much needed and appreciated".

"The next challenge is to get Stefanie and Stacey to the USA for more medical care". "My mom now has a fractured lower right leg, a shattered left ankle that is going to require surgery, a fractured right wrist, at least 2 broken ribs, and a contusion on her lungs". Sisters Stefanie and Brooke Schaffer were on board with their parents, Stacey and Paul Bender, at the time of the blast.

According to wire reports, on Saturday the family was on a boat tour off the island of Exuma, located about 130 miles south of Nassau.

Footage taken by a witness on a nearby boat moments after the blast shows flames and thick black smoke billowing from the burning boat.

Schaffer's older brother, George, told ABC that the young woman is in critical condition and in a medically induced coma at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau. Stacey suffered multiple broken bones and internal injuries.
