Stephen Colbert Wants To Know What Putin Has On Trump

Trump sought on Tuesday to calm the storm over what critics said was his failure to hold Putin accountable for what USA intelligence agencies said was meddling in the 2016 election, saying he misspoke in the joint news conference in Helsinki.

Kim Bum-soo has more.

"It's a glaring strategic mistake", Scaramucci said on CNN of Trump's equivocation yesterday over US intelligence conclusions about Russian election meddling.

"We also discussed one of the most critical challenges facing humanity: nuclear proliferation". "But I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today".

"While I had a great meeting with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, raising vast amounts of money, I had an even better meeting with Vladimir Putin of Russian Federation".

Putin simply stated that he is glad that the Korean Peninsula issue is starting to be resolved.

"Seriously, Trump gushes over Putin like a flustered 12-year-old who just met Mickey at Disneyland", the "Late Night" host said. He also shared a photo of him and Putin with the quote, "I would rather take a political risk in pursuit of peace, than to risk peace in pursuit of politics".

Earlier on Monday, Schumer wondered "What could possibly cause President Trump to put the interests of Russian Federation over those of the United States?" and suggested it was possible "that President Putin holds damaging information over President Trump".

McCain's statement also refers to Trump's sidestepping of a reporter's question who asked who Trump believed on whether Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump failed to push Putin to end his attacks on the elections and defended him "on all fronts", Murray said.

After a journalist asked a question at their joint press conference Monday in Helsinki using soccer metaphors, Putin pulled out a red-and-white ball and tossed it at Trump, at the neighboring podium.

Sen. John McCain called it "one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory". "Absent his cooperation in achieving that justice, the United States should impose tough new sanctions on Russian Federation".

"Donald Trump's press conference performance in Helsinki rises to and exceeds the threshold of "high crimes and misdemeanours". "I hope those that voted for Mr. Trump in good conscience will see he's leading us down a very unsafe path". "I will say this, I don't see any reason why it would be", Trump said.

In a series of tweets, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said Mr Trump's actions had "strengthened our adversaries while weakening our defences and those of our allies".

"It's the same thing as the accusations with meddling into the election process in America", the Russian president said.
