Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Lovren said: "Modric is not one of the best but the best player in the middle in the world and, if we win, he deserves this World Cup".
"I heard people saying I had a hard season but I don't agree with that", the 29-year-old told BeIN SPORTS.
"Without being arrogant, I think I have proved to be one of the best defenders in the world".
Lovren and his team-mates helped shackle England captain Harry Kane during last night's 2-1 extra time victory, and will now face France in Sunday's decider.More news: Brett Kavanaugh visits Senate as confirmation fight begins

"It's something, for me, special".
Croatia and Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren has claimed that he deserves to be considered amongst the best defenders in world football. This is something historic for us. People are crying in our country.
"It's something we'll never forget". We beat our record of 20 years ago and we had it on our shoulders all the time, this weight.
The Croatia worldwide will be hoping to emerge victorious against France in the final, and the way he helped shut Kane down will give him confidence.
Subasic suffered a tight hamstring towards the end of Croatia's quarter-final win over hosts Russian Federation and was unable to take goal-kicks before the tie went to penalties.
"[In Croatia] we went through a lot of s***, war, all these things and even now the situation is not the best".
