Chelsea FC’s first signing under Maurizio Sarri revealed

Club sources say that the midfielder, announced as a Chelsea player after Maurizio Sarri's appointment, had told City as recently as Thursday that he still wanted to play for Pep Guardiola.

A £43m transfer fee was agreed between De Laurentiis and City last month, but Napoli reneged on that deal, leaving club hierarchy stunned.

Conte and his staff leave as part of a £9m compensation package clear-out just 28 days before the start of the new league season.

Chelsea believe they have got in Sarri an astute tactician who produces sides playing exciting football with his three years at Napoli harvesting two second-placed finishes in Serie A.
