US, Turkey Begin 'Coordinated, Independent' Patrols Near Manbij

Syria expressed its strong condemnation and absolute rejection of the incursion of Turkish and USA forces into the vicinity of Manbij city as it stressed that it is more determined to free the entire Syrian territory from any foreign presence.

In a tweet, the Turkish Armed Forces said patrols were being carried out between Manbij and the area liberated by Turkey's Operation Euphrates Shield.

He also argued for the importance of the Manbij roadmap reached by Turkey and the USA for Syria's future.

"Syria strongly condemns and absolutely rejects the incursion of Turkish and American forces into the area of Manbij city", said a foreign ministry source, quoted by state news agency SANA. Turkey previously launched Operation Olive Branch on January 20 to eliminate the YPG from Afrin province in northwestern Syria. The YPG terrorist organization in Manbij is the same as the Syrian regime soldiers.

"We are patrolling on one side and they are patrolling on the other", defense spokesman Eric Pahon told VOA on Monday.

Turkey and the United States endorsed a roadmap for the withdrawal of Kurdish militants from Manbij earlier this month, and agreed to jointly secure the city.

"Now the YPG is leaving here (Manbij)".

"If security is provided in Manbij, people who fled their land due to the oppression of the YPG terrorist organization and the Daesh terrorist group will return to their homes", he said. Erdogan made the comments in a campaign rally in the northern province of Ordu, Reuters reported.
