Man shot in Deerfield Beach is rapper XXXTENTACION, TMZ reports

About an hour and a half after the shooting was reported, the sheriff's office announced that XXXTentacion had been pronounced dead at a local hospital.

They placed candles, flowers and teddy bears on the sidewalk near where the rapper known by his fans simply as "X" was shot.

The 20-year-old, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, talked about dying in an undated Instagram Live video.

According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, the fatal shooting was first reported at a Deerfield Beach motorsports shop at 3:57 p.m. Sheriff's officials said that XXXTentacion was approached by "two armed suspects" as the artist was leaving the dealer and then one of those assailants fatally shot him.

Following the shocking news, XXXTentacion's friends and fellow musicians took to social media to pay tribute to the young rapper.

Broward County deputies are actively looking for the two men and asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward, the officer said.

Authorities later confirmed the victim's identity to be XXXTentacion. "I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here thank you for existing".

He as reportedly facing trial on multiple felony charges in connection with allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman. J. Cole called him an "enormous talent" with "limitless potential". In March, a judge released him from house arrest so that he could tour.

Despite his legal troubles, XXX has found success in the entertainment industry with his last album debuting at #1.

After his music was briefly removed from Spotify under its prior controversial "Hate Content and Hateful Content Policy", the rapper spoke out on Twitter. "If I'm gonna die or ever be a sacrifice, I want to make sure that my life made at least 5 million kids happy..."
