FG lauds outcome of Kim, Trump historic summit

Tweeting from the presidential plane, which just landed in Hawaii to refuel on the trip back from Singapore, Trump wrote, "There is no limit to what NoKo can achieve when it gives up its nuclear weapons and embraces commerce & engagement w/ the world".

North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un arrived in Singapore for his summit with President Trump with security on his mind - dispatching decoy planes from Pyongyang to thwart anyone who might try to attack him and packing his own food for his visit to try to prevent poisoning.

In the poll, Trump received a 51 percent approval rating for his handling of North Korea and also led the list of leaders who should take the most credit for the summit and the joint pledge.

Victor Cha, a former United States pointman on North Korea, said in an opinion piece in the New York Times: "Despite its many flaws, the Singapore summit represents the start of a diplomatic process that takes us away from the brink of war". Despite those efforts, Trump announced after the summit that he had agreed to suspend USA military drills with South Korea, something North Korea has long demanded.

Kim said if the United States takes "genuine measures for building trust", he would take "additional goodwill measures of next stage commensurate with them".

The agreement calls for the two countries to jointly work on efforts to build a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula, to establish new U.S. The two sides promised to hold follow-up negotiations.

"I don't know exactly what the timing will be for our next conversation with the North Koreans", Pompeo said.

"We are going to get out of the war games that cost so much money", he said referring to the USA participation in joint military exercises with South Korea. It's unclear whether the president informed US allies in the region of his plan to end the "war games", as he called them, prior to his declaration.

"We welcome the outcomes", the defense spokesman said.

In the aftermath of the Singapore summit, the anti-Trump talking point is that Trump accomplished nothing of effect. "They are fighting hard to downplay the deal with North Korea".

The two leaders met on Tuesday, signing a brief declaration on denuclearisation and reducing tensions.

"Otto did not die in vain".

KCNA said the U.S. president expressed his intention to offer security guarantees to North Korea and lift sanctions "over a period of good-will dialogue" between the two countries.

And Jimmy Fallon also picked up on the awkward phrasing used by the president, joking on The Tonight Show: "When he heard that, Kim Jong-un was like, 'Let's do this meeting somewhere in public'".

The joint statement says that "President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

"Assuredly, Nigeria will continue to advocate and promote peaceful resolution of conflict and crises around world", the ministry stated. "Last night, Kim spent hours preparing, while at the same time Trump was laying in bed waiting for Spongebob to perform on the Tonys".
