We'll see what happens on North Korea summit

A top Kim aide blasted Bolton this week, blaming the Libya deal for Gaddafi's eventual downfall in an internationally backed popular uprising in 2011.

"We hope. some of the high-level meetings that (the two sides) have been working towards can be held smoothly and. results can be achieved", he said.

Kim "will get protections that will be very strong," Trump told reporters."He'd be in his country and running his country".

The North has argued that it needs its nuclear weapons to preserve its security, and expressed concerns about giving up its nuclear program. But Yoho told me in an interview that the lawmakers' intention is to give the Trump administration leverage with both Pyongyang and Beijing by making Congress the bad cop.

Cancellation of the summit, the first between the U.S. and North Korean leaders, would deal a major blow to what could be the biggest diplomatic achievement of Trump's presidency, one his supporters have suggested would be worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump's remarks came the day after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the USA to remain calm over North Korea's about-face. That meeting was followed by a landmark inter-Korean summit, as well as meetings between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Kim in preparation for the upcoming Trump-Kim summit.

In 2003, Kadhafi agreed to the elimination of his country's nuclear program and chemical weapons arsenal to gain sanctions relief.

The fate suffered by Libya shows "what will take place if we don't make a deal", the USA president warned.

"The Libya model was a much different model".

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un provides guidance on a nuclear weapons program in this undated photo released by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) in Pyongyang, Sept. 3, 2017. "It was incredibly reckless and unsafe". North Korea pointed this out while condemning Bolton's statement earlier this week.

Some analysts and United States officials believe the North may have been testing Mr Trump's willingness to soften the USA demand for complete denuclearization.

Bolton, who served in the State Department and as United Nations ambassador in the Bush administration, replaced Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster in April. -South Korea military drills. We saw this morning that North Korea apparently, allegedly, sent out a statement about South Korea. "The worst thing the White House could have done was to escalate the situation". "There's been no talk of changing our scope", White said.

Mr Bolton has repeatedly suggested the Libya model of unilateral disarmament for North Korea, most recently on Sunday.

Pyongyang appears to be putting pressure on both the United States and South Korea and refusing to talk until some concessions are made, she adds. But he said Bolton was "trying to lay down some markers for verifiable denuclearisation".

After a few months of rapprochement, North Korea abruptly called off scheduled high-level talks with South Korea on Wednesday and warned the US that a planned summit with President Donald Trump could be at risk.

Analysts said the actions fit with past behaviour by North Korea, which has often postponed or canceled talks in an effort to gain leverage. We may have the meeting; we may not have the meeting.

During the press conference with Stoltenberg, Trump also said that Chinese President Xi Jinping could be influencing Kim, insinuating his involvement in the change of tone from the DPRK and citing the North Korean leader's second foreign visit to China this year as a possible turning point. "We just can't do it", he said. The President is fully prepared to have the meeting. "If it doesn't, we'll continue the maximum pressure campaign that's been ongoing".

South Korea's government has yet to weigh in on the suspension of talks. "The European Union has become very spoiled, other countries have become very spoiled because they've always gotten 100 percent of whatever they wanted from the United States", Trump said.
