UFC 224: Amanda Nunes Looks To Retain Bantamweight Crown In Brazil

Already the second most successful UFC women's Bantamweight Champion, Amanda Nunes faced the battle of TUF 18's Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in her third championship defense. They trotted their fighter back out instead of protect her.

"To defend this belt is something I dream, and I have to do it".

Between rounds, Pennington's corner urged her not to allow Nunes to march her down and keep her back against the fence.

Nunes battered Pennington's leg with kicks and twice she dropped the former "Ultimate Fighter" competitor to the mat with those clubbing shots. But she's become an effective champion regardless.

The Brazilian had the contender in an armbar towards the end of the first, but Gastelum didn't let the fight hit the ground again until he dropped Souza at the midway point of the second round.

Nunes said winning against her friend Pennington was the hardest challenge she had to face in her career.

Unbeaten Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Mackenzie Dern needed less than three minutes to overcome American Amanda Cooper in the strawweight division.

Next up, John Lineker continued to prove he is one of the most risky fighters in the lightweight divisions after scoring a third-round finish of Brian Kelleher via KO. She started to land her jab and follow-up right hand, but she was always forced to move forward as she threw, which seemed to have a negative effect on the power of the shots. "Rocky" began to press the action a bit more.

In his post-fight interview, Lineker called on Dana White to book him for a title fight. In the UFC "Masters" division 41-year-old Vitor Belfort is taking on 39-year-old Lyoto Machida where the victor of the bout earns a free hip replacement and prune juice for the next two years!

"It was very hard for me this fight", Nunes said. The UFC has expressed interest in a potential super fight between Nunes and 145-pound champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino later this year. 'If you want to retire you have to fight me first'.
