Ten days after Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen had his files seized by federal investigators in Manhattan related to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation, Giuliani joined the president's team on April 19 and took a temporary leave of absence from the firm.
President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, resigned from his role at the law firm Greenberg Traurig on Wednesday, just one week after the former New York City Mayor unleashed a wave of scrutiny following his highly publicized interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
"We can not speak for Mr. Giuliani with respect to what was intended by his remarks", the firm's spokeswoman said.
Giuliani and the firm, Greenberg Traurig, released a joint statement on Thursday saying that the resignation was effective a day earlier.
In a statement, Richard Rosenbaum, executive chairman of Greenberg Traurig, said that Giuliani originally meant to "play a limited role, for a short period of time" representing Trump.More news: Three injured in knife attack on South Africa mosque: Security company

Since Giuliani joined Trump's legal team, he and the president have altered their story about the payment and its timing. In interviews, Mr. Giuliani suggested that such payments were common at his firm.
"Michael would take care of things like this like I take care of this with my clients", Giuliani added.
Trump had previously denied knowledge of the payment.
The former mayor of New York City, used to be a staple in the seats near the Yankees' dugout at the old Yankee Stadium during his time in office, and given the magnitude of the series between the Red Sox and Yankees, it's no surprise he carved out time to make an appearance.
Though the reimbursement was made only a month before Trump's 2016 election, Giuliani has said it "was not campaign money", and therefore it was not a campaign finance violation.
