Nothing Must Happen To Dino Melaye, Dogara Warns Police


The House of Representatives on Thursday issued a stern warning to security agencies, particularly the Police, about the security of Senator Dino Melaye.

His arraignment in court today was subsequent to his discharge from the National Hospital after he was confirmed fit for trial.

Dino Melaye had on Thursday appeared before a Kogi court over alleged criminal conspiracy.

Melaye is being accused of collaborating with suspects arrested for kidnapping, illegal possession of arms and political thuggery in Kogi state.

After listening to the charge, Dino please not guilty.

As the case commenced, the prosecution, Alex Isihon, stated that the court did not have the jurisdiction to entertain the case.

Melaye's lawyer, Mr. Nkem Okoro, told newsmen that his client met the bail conditions granted by the court but the senator was re-arrested by the police on the court premises.

It is understood that the presiding magistrate, Mabel Segun-Bello, had granted him bail in the sum of N90 million before he was rearrested by the police.

On March 1, Melaye was granted a N100,000 bail after he was asked to provide a surety who is not less than a level 14 in the Federal Civil Service. "This case was investigated and that is why the senator was arraigned in court today", the police spokesperson said.

In addition, the magistrate ordered that Dino must report to the Wuse police command every working day of the week until same is altered by the court.
