Scott will play a new character who partners up with co-lead Damon Wayans' Roger Murtaugh.
Fox entertainment president Michael Thorn issued a statement about the recasting: "Seann is a fantastic addition to this already awesome cast".
Sure, it means that the show has survived the veritable slaughter session that has seen many other fan favorites get the ax instead of renewal, but with Seann William Scott coming in to replace the actor, some Lethal Weapon fans just don't see the point of the series proceeding without Crawford. "Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we're thrilled to bring this show back for another season".
For his part, Crawford says he's grateful to have played the "dream role" of Riggs and wishes the continuing cast and crew the best of luck on the third season.More news: Mars Helicopter to Fly on NASA's Next Red Planet Rover Mission

According to Deadline, Scott is rumored to be playing Riggs' brother, so the series could continue using the "Riggs" name. (McG directed the pilot episode from a script by Matt Miller.) The series is backed by Warner Bros. "Furthermore, I apologize to all the crew and cast for any negative attention Lethal Weapon is receiving because of these incidents", he said.
"Warner Bros. Television has decided not to renew Clayne Crawford's contract for Lethal Weapon", Warner Bros. However, reports emerged that Crawford had been disciplined by the network for multiple outbursts of bad behavior put the show in jeopardy of cancellation.
This season, Lethal Weapon averaged a 1.7 most current rating among adults 18-49 and 6.9 million total viewers.
Episodes of LETHAL WEAPON are available on FOX NOW, Hulu and On Demand. But following his two counts of misbehaviour he has now been officially replaced, and the newbie will be American Pie actor Seann William Scott. Miller, Dan Lin, Jennifer Gwartz, and McG serve as executive producers.
