Celtics ace Smart hits out at 'dirty' Smith

According to Second Spectrum, the Celtics shot 8 of 12 in Game 2 when Smith was the primary defender. "He goes and makes two, we don't score, and it kind of sent it back to a 10-point game after that". It's the reason why a forensic analysis of another Celtics win in the crucible of a conference finals against LeBron James has his fingerprints all over it. Marcus Smart was a plus-21 in the game. He even got a double-double from Kevin Love (22 points and 15 rebounds). That lead swelled to 7 points at halftime as Kyle Korver had a hot shooting streak in which he scored 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting. And you go and take two hands to the back; that's a dirty shot. Despite the excellent defense, James simply launched a turn around three that hit nothing but net. "They played no defense whatsoever". Why can't James' brilliance be enough one more time, ensuring that we receive the maximum dosage possible this season?

Smart missed the final 15 games of the regular season after tearing a ligament in his right thumb while diving for a loose ball in a game against the Indiana Pacers on March 11. That has never played well in Smart's orbit. Stevens puts Boston in a position to best maximize its talent. Cleveland is 5-1 at home but only the Game 4 win over a demoralized Toronto team was a one-sided contest. The Celtics turned it over just six times.

Boston improved to 9-0 this postseason at TD Garden.

"So you know, it's like a bully, you keep letting a bully keep picking on you, he's going to pick on you until you finally stand up". The Cavaliers sagged in the second half, where they were outscored 59-39 by the Celtics. He turned the ball over the Cavs' first possession. It was his tenth of the playoffs and it gave Boston their biggest lead of the night. They wound up comfortable 107-94 winners and on the surface, look destined for an improbable Finals berth. The Cavaliers were in control all of the first half, quieting the crowd as they held a seven point lead going into halftime. His determination and willingness to compete matching his fearless squad that continue to defy the odds.

Celtics guard Rozier tallied 14 points in the third quarter to help the Celtics erase their seven-point half-time deficit.

No one said it was going to be easy, but after cruising to an NBA-best 65-17 record this season, the Rockets are not going to simply roll over. The Cavaliers have to get more balance in the scoring department, something that we've talked about all postseason long.

He's not wrong. Prior to tipoff, the question was if the Celtics would be able to withstand the inevitable incoming LeBron onslaught.

Boston led 84-77 after three quarters and took command late in the fourth with the Cavs getting little offense other than from James.

Rooting against Boston is a time-honored tradition in my circle of native New Yorkers, Howard University alums and others who now call D.C. our home. Boston are an insane 37-0 all-time when holding a 2-0 advantage in the playoffs. But having a teammate's back is second nature to Smart.
