After escaping the police dragnet and brazenly posing for camera with a smiling face, the rape accused BJP MLA was finally arrested by the CBI on Friday.

The case came into the limelight after the victim tried to immolate herself on Sunday outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence, alleging police inaction against Sengar.

Victim women asked for in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath " s house to take action against the BJP MLA who raped her. Police detained her father and her, instead of the MLA. He also said that the family still fears for their life but were hopeful that no harm would come to them as the premier investigative agency had now taken up the case. UP Government has been facing the heat and even several BJP MLAs protested against Kuldeep Singh Sengar after which a CBI probe has been initiated.

The State government handed over the probe into the alleged gang-rape of the girl and the custodial death of her father to the CBI.

Soon after taking over the case, the CBI brought Sengar to its office in Lucknow at around 5 am for questioning.

The accused MLA had then visited Adityanatah in Lucknow.

Singh Sengar and his brother Atul Singh Sengar have been accused of raping a 16-year-old girl last June in a town in his constituency near the state capital, Lucknow. CBI officials also spoke to her anguished family, an official said.

Of the three re-registered FIRs, the first pertains to the alleged rape of the girl in which Sengar and a woman were named as main accused.

Under the laws (IPC and CrPC), the police are duty bound to arrest a person who has been charged with rape and a case registered against him.

However, as the murder charge against Atul was added later by the police, the second FIR does not reflect in the CBI's FIR.

Sengar, who was booked by the UP police on Thursday following nationwide furore over rape allegations levelled by a 17-year-old minor in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao, was taken into custody by the CBI in the wee hours today. According to the post-mortem report, he had suffered serious injuries.
