What also tears at Davis and Celestine: Had a local family law attorney who represented the kids' aunt in a failed custody bid not recognized the children in news reports, Davis believes she might never have known their fate.

Five bodies were found March 26 near the small city of Mendocino, a few days after Washington state authorities began investigating the Harts for possible child neglect, but three of their children were not immediately recovered from the scene.

Cheryl Hart, who identified herself as a friend of Sarah Hart, called 911 in Clark County on Monday, March 26, anxious because she hadn't been able to reach Sarah since receiving a text message from her at 3 a.m. two days earlier.

Lt. Shannon Barney, a sheriff's office spokesman, said Friday that authorities can't rely on dental records to identify the body that was recovered last weekend because authorities haven't been able to find a dentist who treated the children.

Just weeks after the Hart family perished in a fatal plunge from an ocean overlook along the Pacific Coast Highway in Northern California, rescuers were searching for another family feared to have driven into water in the same county. He said they were trying to get information about the unidentified body out to the public.

"This is another 4-year-old child that we're talking about", Franklin said.

She spoke the same day California authorities announced Jennifer Hart was drunk when she drove off the coastal cliff.

"Toxicology tests also revealed that at least some of the car's passengers had "significant" amounts of a sleep-inducing drug found in Benadryl in their systems", the Associated Press reported today. She said that afterward they were going to sit down and eat, and feed the children.

Devonte, who captured the hearts of America in November 2014 when a photo of him hugging a police officer during a Ferguson-related rally in Portland went viral, told DeKalb and his wife that his parents withheld food as punishment. "Until then, we are unable to speculate on the effect the alcohol may have played", he said.

It is still unclear why the vehicle was driven into the ocean with the family from Washington in late March. During a Sunday night teleconference with media, CHP said there was no note left behind and no obvious indicator in the Hart's home to explain what happened.

"There are more reasons to believe that this was intentional than there are to believe that this was an accident", Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman told TIME last week.
