Apple working on iPhone SE 2

Japanese blog Macotakara, which has a fairly decent track record when it comes to Apple rumors, claims the iPhone SE will be missing a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The regulatory filings with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) have revealed a total of 11 model numbers belonging to upcoming iPhone models.

Apple is expected to deliver a new iPhone SE next month, complete with refreshed internals that make it significantly snappier.

We finally have some concrete information related to the successor of the iPhone SE, or the iPhone SE 2.

"Versions of iPhone running iOS 11 are listed with the model numbers A1920, A1921, A1984, A2097, A2098, A2099, A2101, A2103, A2104, A2105, and A2106".

He clarified that any old inventory of iPhone X models will still be on sale, but no new ones will be produced. However, the new model numbers do hint at the possibility of a new iPhone SE 2 model releasing sometime later this year.

"We expect Apple to report an in-line March quarter, but are cautious into earnings on May 1 due to our belief that June quarter consensus estimates need to be revised lower", analyst Katy Hulbert wrote in a research note to clients. The 128GB variant, on the other hand, will likely be priced above Rs.30,000 in the country.

To make that possible, Apple would have to ditch the iPhone SE's aluminum unibody and give it a glass back, like that on iPhone 8 and iPhone X. However, the handset is expected to retain the same appearance elsewhere, including the same 4-inch Retina display. The iPhone SE 2 is expected to be different from its predecessor in the design department as well.

Generally speaking, people tend to agree that Apple has jumped the shark with the iPhone X.

The iPhone SE 2 should also feature an A10 Fusion chip, as previously reported.
