Zingerman's named finalist in James Beard restaurant awards

Three San Antonio chefs made the James Beard semifinalist list of 2018 Restaurant and Chef Award, announced February 15 - chefs Diego Galicia and Rico Torres of Restaurant Mixtli and McHugh.

Also today, Highlands pastry chef Dolester Miles was selected one of five finalists for the country's outstanding pastry chef.

The finalists for the prestigious James Beard Foundation Awards were announced this morning, again with no names from Hawaii making the list.

Carlisle still has ties to Madison and participated in a panel discussion at the Cap Times' Idea Fest past year focused on the farm-to-table movement. He has been nominated for the award four times in the past.

Outstanding Bar Program: Bar Agricole and Trick Dog, both in San Francisco, are finalists.

The Beard Awards will be announced May 7 in Chicago. She was also a nominee in 2017.

Considered to be the Oscars of the culinary award, the awards recognize chefs, front of house professionals, restaurateurs, and media in a broad array of categories.

A full list of the finalists across 60 categories can be found here. Chef George Mavrothalassitis was the last to claim an actual prize, a regional best chef award in 2003.

The Times-Picayune restaurant critic Brett Anderson is nominated in the media categories for his investigation of sexual harassment at the Besh Restaurant Group.

The James Beard Foundation has recognized Hamilton's New American fare, Robbins' housemade pastas, Williams' small French plates and Cohen's vegetable-centric dishes as noteworthy contenders in years past. She previously worked at DNAinfo and POLITICO New York.

The nominees for the annual awards were announced on Wednesday.
