A Pennsylvania teenager who was missing for nearly two weeks, along with the 45-year-old man who frequently signed her out of school without her parents' permission, was returned home and the man was in custody after the two were found in Mexico, authorities said.
Amy Yu and Kevin Esterly were found around 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Playa del Carmen by U.S. Department of Homeland Security investigators, the Policia Federal Transnational Criminal Investigative Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Police say Esterly signed the teen out of school numerous times and that Yu had modified school documents to list him as her stepfather.
Mui Luu, the girl's mother, said last week she discovered the alleged romantic relationship Esterly and her daughter when she found suggestive text messages on Yu's cellphone.
The arrest came two days after Mexican authorities issued an Amber Alert for Yu, which stated that she could in danger.
Yu was reunited with her family today.
The married father of four will face a charge of child custody interference when he arrives in Pennsylvania.
The Allentown Police Department does not have a timeline for Esterly's extradition.
Allentown Police Chief William Reinik said Esterly signed Amy out of school multiple times and that their relationship had been "going on for at least a year".More news: Russian Federation expels 23 British diplomats over nerve toxin attack

Amy Yu age 16 and Kevin Esterly age 45, have been reported missing and could possibly be traveling together in a 1999 Red Honda Accord, 2 door bearing PA vehicle registration of KLT 0529.
But the relationship between Amy and Kevin reportedly changed sometime in the summer.
"Amy is unharmed and in good health", Allentown police said.
It was also around early February that Esterly and his wife, Stacy, went to Amy's house. "She wants Amy home with her mom, that is what she has always wanted". The then two travelled to Philadelphia International Airport and got on a one-way flight to Mexico.
Esterly and Yu will be escorted back to the United States.
Where is Amy Yu? "They were yelling about they think that Amy and Kevin are sleeping together and doing stupid stuff". Tampa police said they were investigating the death of Arnaud, 38, although they said in a news release that it appears to be accidental.
Amy's mother said money, jewelry and her daughter's personal documents were missing, according to court documents, and Esterly's wife said $4,000 along with his personal documents were missing. "I never thought he would act like that".
"[Stacey is] very happy and relieved", Waldron said.
