Joel Embiid out for game after colliding with Markelle Fultz

Embiid, who missed the first two seasons of his National Basketball Association career due to various injuries, has been central to the 76ers' resurgence, leading the team in scoring, rebounding and blocks while becoming their first All-Star since Jrue Holiday in 2012-13.

Fultz was driving toward the basket 20 seconds into the period when he appeared to accidentally head-butt Embiid.

Adding to the worry over Embiid's injury was a status update he gave via a story he posted to his Instagram with the caption, "Not good". The team now says Embiid has a concussion as well as a facial fracture.

While Embiid was injured during the collision, rookie guard Markelle Fultz came away unscathed.

After missing over 200 games in his short career thus far, neither Embiid nor the Sixers want to see him sitting on the sidelines any more.

"I know I hit him, but I believe he is OK, " Fultz said, per ESPN. "All I can do is pray for him". Before exiting, Embiid recorded five points and three rebounds in nine minutes. J.J. Redick finished with 21 to contribute as well. The Sixers (44-30) have eight regular-season games remaining. Philadelphia now holds the fourth-seed in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia's next game is Friday against the Hawks, and Embiid should be considered questionable for that game at this time.

The Athletic's Derek Bodner reports that Embiid is likely to be out beyond Philly's next two games.
