BMW Shows off M8 Grand Coupe Concept

Today, at the Geneva International Motor Show, BMW did one better and not only revealed the stunning emerald green M8 Gran Coupe Concept is a design study that "previews the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and BMW M8 Gran Coupe".

The decision to resurrect the 8-Series follows an announcement by BMW Chairman Harald Krueger to position the premium brand even further upmarket. Following the lead of the 6-Series Gran Coupe (which is actually quite nice), this concept is much like a 7-Series. This concept previews a later, four-door version of the platform due in 2019.

Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design said: "The BMW 8 Series will be the new leader in the BMW range, combining the highest levels of sportiness and elegance". The concept gives a look at what the face of the 8 Series will look like when it goes on sale in 2019, with the new angular kidney-shaped grilles, and the headlights that borrow styling impressions from the M8 GTE endurance racing auto. The long wheelbase, long bonnet, flowing roofline and short rear make for a sporty coupe-like shape, whereas the muscular arches let you know from afar that you're staring at a performance-oriented product. The Affalterbach-bred sports sedan gets a. But among its many unique bold touches, the new concept receives more aggressive front air vents as well as yellow headlights featuring tech borrowed from the M8 GTE race vehicle. "With this vehicle, BMW M unmistakably brings luxury out of the "comfort zone". The result is a visually small cabin positioned far back from the front axle and a coupe-like profile. Another spectacular detail of the show auto presented in Geneva is the Salève Vert paint finish that appears to change from green to greyish blue in different lights. As on early BMW coupes, the kidney elements are linked by an unbroken grille surround, creating a large single element. The headlights are similar to those on the M8 GTE racer and there are carbon fibre air intakes to funnel air into the engine and to the brakes.
