Richardson officer hospitalized after shooting at apartment complex

A Richardson police officer was shot and killed Wednesday night by an active shooter, police said.

The incident happened near Renner Road and North Star Road at a large apartment complex around 8 p.m.

The suspected gunman has been cornered at the Breckinridge Point apartment complex and police were negotiating his surrender, according to the Dallas Morning-News. "Unfortunately, one of our officers was also shot and has gone down". Police said he continued to fire shots, but was taken into custody a few hours later. Police say for residents of the apartment complex to shelter in place.

The conditions of the injured officer and civilian are so far unknown.

A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter hovered over the scene. The officer was taken to a hospital in nearby Plano.

Later, explosions were heard before the suspect was apprehended.

The fallen deputy, Micah Flick, 34, is survived by his wife and 7-year-old twins. One officer, responding to a disturbance call, was shot, as well as one civilian.
