Bengaluru pub brawl case: Congress expels MLA's son for assaulting man

Nalapad was the general secretary of the Youth Congress in Bengaluru.

Nalapad allegedly assaulted and threatened the man after an altercation broke out between the two over a trivial matter at an upscale eatery on Saturday night.

The incident came to light after parents of the victim L. Vidwath lodged a complaint at Cubbon Park Police Station. "Vidwath told him he was sitting so because his leg was fractured". Nalapad and his friends got into an argument with Vidwath when they asked him to sit properly.

Coincidentally, the case against Mohammed was registered at Cubbon Park police station which falls within the constituency limits of Mohammed's legislator father NA Haris.

He was immediately rushed to the city's Mallya Hospital for treatment.

Circle Inspector of Cubbon Park, Vijay Hadagali, has been suspended for allegedly helping the MLA's son and the ACP Manjunath Talawar has been transferred to Police Commissioner's Office for dereliction of duty.

There was speculation that Nalapad, who had evaded arrest on Sunday, surrendered on Monday in hope of securing bail. They also reportedly followed Vidvat to the parking lot and assaulted him before tailing him to Mallya hospital where his friends took him for medical aid.

MLA Haris could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts.

I don't know where he is now. I have always advised my son to never do anything wrong.

I am appalled at & strongly condemn the ghastly attack by MLA N.A. Harris's son on innocent Vidwat.

The party bosses began the damage-control exercise by expelling Mohammed Nalpad from the party for six years. He tweeted that "the victim will be served justice". Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had also tweeted that offenders should be punished to the "full extent of law". "It (attack on the youth) is condemnable".

BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa has been declared the chief ministerial candidate by the saffron party in the upcoming elections.
