BB&T reports progress in restoring services, says it had equipment malfunction


BB&T Bank posted to its Twitter this morning that its banking services are down because of "a technical issue". Officials say customers can still use their debit, credit and prepaid cards for the time being.

BB&T reporting an outage of its ATMs, online banking, mobile banking app and automated phone service. We want to make sure our clients understand some of the information they will see about their accounts has not yet been fully updated.

"To our clients, we are deeply sorry this has happened", the Winston-Salem-based bank said.

The bank said it would reimburse customers for any fees they are assessed related to the outage, as well as waive its fees.

An equipment malfunction at a data center disrupted the financial routines of millions of BB&T Corp. customers beginning late Thursday afternoon. "You claim to "hear" our frustrations yet you don't address that which we are frustrated about".

BB&T said its systems would be processing updates throughout Saturday and expected account information to be current as soon as Sunday.

Much of central North Carolina was impacted by the outage, along with the Washingto D.C., Atlanta and Philadelphia regions. "However, Bank spokesman Brian Davis told the problem had been identified as a "technical issue within our system." and that there is no reason to believe it's related to cybersecurity".
