Amazon gives Prime members perk at Whole Foods

Likewise, it provides an incentive to Amazon Prime members to do their grocery shopping at Whole Foods Market, since they earn 5% cashback if they use the rewards credit card.

"We are excited to launch the Amazon Rewards Visa Card in our stores, offering benefits to our customers on all of their purchases at Whole Foods Market", said John Mackey, Whole Foods Market co-founder and CEO.

You don't have to be a Prime member to be approved for Amazon's Rewards Visa, but it pays if you are.

And one way to do that is by enticing more Amazon Prime members into Whole Foods stores.

Ever since Amazon bought out Whole Foods previous year for $12 billion, the megacorp has moved aggressively, cutting prices, adding Whole Foods products to its Prime Now delivery service, and piloting a delivery service that's free for Prime members. But for those cardholders who regularly shop Whole Foods regardless, the perk will likely be welcomed.

The perk is Amazon's latest ploy to funnel more customers into Whole Foods, which the e-commerce giant acquired previous year for $13.7bn. Whole Foods stores have faced food shortages that employees blame on a new inventory-management system.

Amazon has already rolled out price cuts for Whole Foods shoppers as a result of its acquisition of the grocery chain. The company would not say why.

Non-Prime members will get 3 percent back when using their credit card.
