Serena Williams Covers Vogue With Baby Daughter Alexis

"I was like, listen to Dr. Williams!" she joked. Knowing I've got this handsome baby to go home to makes me feel like I don't have to play another match. Hers was a fortunate and healthy pregnancy, by any standard.

Serena Williams revealed that her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, who was born on September 1, 2017, was born by emergency C-section when her heart rate went too low during her contractions. Almost a third of births in the United States are C-sections, and Williams' procedure was flawless. Her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, added that, "the feeling of not being able to help made [motherhood] even harder". She does battle with some issues of self-efficacy regarding the matter.

Despite her obvious strength and good health, the world champion tennis player has a history of blood clots. Smoking, being overweight and obesity, and genetics are all factors that may cause blood clotting. Her previous blood clot experiences have been equally dramatic. After the C-section, though, she stopped taking them to allow the surgical wound to heal. Williams has 23 Grand Slam tournament wins for women's singles and to beat the record of Margaret Court's 24 wins, she'll need two more.

After the ultrasound turned up empty, doctor discovered several small blood clots in her lungs. "I told you, I need a CT scan and a heparin drip".

Williams' physical instincts were correct.

The ordeal continued for another six days. The incision from her C-section popped open because of coughing fits from the embolism. The cause: the blood thinner she'd resumed. She was once again in surgery to have a filter placed into a vein to prevent clots from traveling to her lungs. "But once she's back on the tour, she'll find a balance". "Serena came home a week later only to find that the night nurse had fallen through, and she spent the first six weeks of motherhood unable to get out of bed". I guess that's just who I am.

Serena Williams' daughter knows how to strike a pose! "No one talks about the low moments-the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry", she said. "Knowing I've got this attractive baby to go home to makes me feel like I don't have to play another match". Williams is skipping this year's Australian Open, which begins next week.

"It's not a secret that I have my sights on 25", said the 36-year-old Williams.
