The wins for the Navigator and the XC60 gave this year's awards a luxury skew.

The brand sold only 10,523 Navigators previous year, far behind competitors in the segment such as the Cadillac Escalade.

"Honda seems to have executed some sort of magic trick-not only is this 10th-generation Accord far sleeker and more decisively styled than its predecessor, it's somehow roomier inside, too", said Chris Paukert, managing editor of CNET's Roadshow and one of almost 60 automotive journalists on a jury that voted on the awards.

To be eligible for the awards, a vehicle had to be new or substantially changed for the current year.

Last year's winners were the Chevrolet Bolt, Honda Ridgeline and Windsor-made Chrysler Pacifica. Each judge was charged with evaluating the contenders based on factors including innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, driver satisfaction and value.
