Mike Green named NHL All-Star for first time since leaving Capitals

Zach Parise, Nino Niederreiter, Mikael Granlund and Jared Spurgeon have missed time due to injury; Staal has been on the ice for every game this season, keeping the team afloat while others get healthy. Green now ranks 19th in National Hockey League scoring among defenseman (24 points in 41 games).

The NHL revealed Wednesday that Patrick Kane was the lone Blackhawks representative named to the 2018 All-Star team.

This will be the third year of the NHL's three-on-three All-Star format, with each of the four divisions competing in two semifinal games before the championship game.

The league's announcement comes one day after Kane recorded his first-ever five-point game.

The Kings are the only team in the Western Conference to have three players chosen for the Jan.28 game at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The Calgary, Alberta, native was also an AHL All-Rookie Team member and Calder Cup champion with the Hershey Bears as a first-year pro in 2005-06, totaling 51 points (12-39-51) and 105 penalty minutes in 68 AHL games from 2005-07.

Rakell makes his first All-Star appearance at 24.
