Laporte Set For Manchester City Medicals On Monday Ahead Of £57million Transfer

Aymeric Laporte is expected to arrive at Manchester City after Athletic Bilbao confirmed their €65 million buyout clause for the 23-year-old France Under-21 global had been met.

The Mancunians hit the valuable defender's £57m release clause, which subsequently crushes their former club transfer record of £55m which acquired them the services of Kevin De Bruyne in 2015.

Laporte's potential arrival could seal the futures of both Eliaquim Mangala and Vincent Kompany, who have both struggled on occasion this season.

Laporte was a target for Guardiola when he first made the move to Eastlands alongside the likes ofManchester United andBarcelona.

Laporte paid a touching tribute to Athletic on the club's official website: "So much to say with so few lines".

"I spoke to him before the match and I didn't see him in the best condition to play", Ziganda said.

The 23-year-old centre-back is expected to travel this evening to Manchester ahead of signing a six-year deal with the Premier League leaders.

Local journalist Nika Cuenca has also tweeted, saying "Laporte is a Manchester City player".

"Today 22 top players is too expensive to buy, even [for] City", the Spaniard was reported as saying.

"But, we can not deny, David has had seven or eight years here - that's a lot of games, a lot of experience".

Guardiola said: "There were players in the past who we were interested in and we will be in the present and the future. We can not pay that right now, it is the truth".
