Thousands of flights in the US have been canceled due to the winter storm sweeping across the east coast.

Almost 100 flight cancellations were reported at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, while another 85 were reported at Miami International Airport.

The fierce conditions left almost 5,000 flights canceled across the country.

For some travelers at MIA, the storm up east meant they were staying put.

So far, 47 flights have been canceled at the Cleveland Hopkins airport and 36 flights have been delayed.

On Friday, however, Bradley Airport officials said they expect operations to resume. "This is not easy".
