Detroit Auto Show 2018: Ford Mustang Bullitt is reborn

MagneRide incorporates a semi-active suspension system and the Recaro black leather-trimmed seats are also optional.

Its 5.0 litre V8 can produce up to 475 BHP and 420 lb ft torque, allowing it to reach a speed of 163 miles per hour, which is approximately 8 miles per hour faster than the Mustang GT. The Bullitt will top out at 163 mph-eight faster than the GT-and features a unique exhaust to emulate the sound of the original movie vehicle.

To give it a cleaner look, it is also void of any exterior decals apart from the crosshair Bullitt gascap at the rear. Wearing a dark green paint job, black wheels and not a single "Ford" badge anywhere one the body, the Bullitt Mustang was just icy cool. Ford has forever produced special edition Mustangs, but the "Bullitt" just revealed at the 2018 Detroit auto show has some special appeal since it comes 50 years after the film Bullitt starring Steve McQueen was released - a film that to this day remains unrivalled for vehicle chase scenes. The 19-inch aluminum Torq Thrust-style wheels have red Brembo calipers behind them.

A nod to other design features of the film vehicle have also been included, but with some modern luxuries such as a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster.

Ford introduced the new model alongside an original 1968 Mustang GT fastback that was the featured in the movie.

Under the skin, the Bullitt Mustang receives a power boost - pushing it from the standard car's 444bhp to 475bhp. This makes it even more powerful than the latest Mustang GT by 14bhp, while its top speed is 8mph higher, too. One Mustang suffered most of the punishment on the famous San Francisco jumps and was scrapped. Pester Ford now if you're as keen to see them in the United Kingdom as we are!
